The COVID-19 outbreak has once again shown us how closely human and animal health are linked. In fact, around two thirds of all infectious diseases are caused by pathogens that are transmissible between animals and humans. For this reason, research into zoonoses, i.e. diseases that can be transmitted from animals to humans, is of crucial importance for the protection of human health.<\/p>\n

One Health is an integrative approach to promoting the health of people, animals and the environment. It recognizes that the health of these three areas is closely linked and that their interactions must be taken into account to improve overall health.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The One Health approach views the health of humans, animals and the environment as an interconnected system. It recognizes that diseases and health risks know no barriers between different species or environmental aspects. Pathogens can be transmitted from animals to humans, environmental pollution can affect human and animal health, and climate change can have an impact on health in all areas.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

World Organization for Animal Health <\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) introduced the One Health concept in the early 2000s to establish a global, collaborative approach to the holistic consideration of health risks for humans, pets, wildlife and the ecosystem. An understanding has emerged that the health of humans, animals and the environment are closely linked and that their interactions must be taken into account.<\/p>\n

Through the One Health approach, we can better understand the transmission of diseases between humans and animals and take appropriate action to contain outbreaks and protect the health of communities. It also promotes awareness of environmental factors that can affect health, such as the impact of pollution on animal and human health.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Our projects in Zambia focus on promoting this understanding and strengthening cooperation between human and veterinary medical professionals. We are committed to improving diagnostic and monitoring systems in order to detect and control disease outbreaks at an early stage. We also support the training of professionals in both areas and promote educational activities in the community to raise awareness of the importance of One Health.<\/p>\n

The One Health approach provides a holistic framework for managing health risks and promoting the well-being of people, animals and the environment.
